Apple’s Jobs taking temporary leave

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs

Apple’s Steve Job has put out an official statement Jan. 14 explaining his temporary leave of absence. The following is the letter provided to the Apple staff:

Apple CEO Steve Jobs today sent the following email to all Apple employees:

Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Steve

Top 5 Iphone Apps of 2008

Iphone 3G

Iphone 3G

editor@playthismag.com                                                      http://www.playthismag.com

The following are the best Iphone applications that you can get for free, each of the five are in seperate catagories.

Best free game

Is a tie! between Tap Tap Revenge and Tap Defense

Tap Tap Revenge

Tap Tap Revenge

Tap Tap Revenge: is a half ass version of Guitar Hero/Rock Band. With constant updates, free music and online multiplayer modes this is one free game you can’t do without.

Tap Defense: is a line war or tower defense type game free in the App store. On Dec. 30 a new update was released for the game providing new types of game play, new towers and now the possibility to make it past level 30.

Coolest App to save you Moolah

Ping Phone: Why pay for text messages and run over excessively? That’s right you don’t have too anymore because Ping Phone allows you the ability to send free Web based texts to your friends phones and receiving them in the same manner.

Downside of Ping Phone: It’s a bit buggy still and the design is rather sloppy. But this App will save you tons in extra texts you don’t need to be paying for.

Best Radio device

Pandora Radio: This App is hands down the best way to stream free music onto your phone. Although there is a banner ad now at the bottom of the stations, you can pick from practically any type of music and it will play from the artists you bookmark.

Honorable mention: Flycast is a pretty bad ass way to hear actual radio stations but they are generally limited. We replaced our Sirius Satallite radio with a simple FM transmitter and Pandora/Ipod music/Flycast. Save you some more moolah.

Best source of news

Mobile News Network (AP): While the New York Times may have great columnists the news on the Mobile news Network created from the AP wire service has the most worldly news and is always up to date. It can even list your local news if the newspaper is an AP affiliate.

Best blogging tool

WordPress: How ever could we forget the best tool on the Iphone. The WordPress Application, which not only allows you to blog from whereever you may be, you can also add photos from where you are at that exact moment.

The twitter app is also a momentous app as it had previously informed Americans of a blogger who was captured abroad and later helped lead to his release.
